With summer fever underway and the warm weather heating things up, there’s no better time to mix up a few fresh fruit cocktails for friends and family.

I decided to do a little search to find the best recipes for fresh fruit cocktails that can be made quickly and easily without a list of gourmet ingredients that have to be fetched from the highest peak of the Himalayan Mountains.

Tired of paying $16 a drink at restaurants or bars, I decided to take matters into my own hands. After all, couldn’t I make them better myself at home at a fraction of the cost?!

The Answer: YES I can!!!

And now for the drum roll please……

Here are the winning recipes:

Cantaloupe-Lime Margarita
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
3 cups of cubed, fresh cantaloupe
Juice and zest of 1 lime
4 oz rum
1/4 fresh mint leaves

In a small saucepan, bring 1/2 cup of water and sugar to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Set sugar syrup aside and let cool. In a blender or food processor, combine cantaloupe, lime zest and juice, and mint leaves until smooth. Add rum and sugar syrup mix. Freeze, stirring occasionally until thick slush forms. Serve and garnish with mint leaves or lime slices.

The guests that I served this drink to were in heaven! They couldn’t believe that this was made by me at home. This beverage offers a fresh and refreshing taste and is sure not to disappoint at your next summer BBQ.
