A Little Bit Fashion…..A Little Bit Philosophy.

If you’ve never heard of Tkees flip-flops and you dont already own a pair, you need to stop reading this and run out to the nearest store to buy a pair. Maybe even three pairs. I am seriously beyond obsessed with this line.

My very best friend introduced me to this brand by buying me a pair as a surprise for my birthday. They are the lovely pink pair from their Zinc collection and I was of course drawn right into their marketing spell when I read their punch line, “Cosmetics for your Feet”. So there I go….kicking off my Gucci slides and giving these puppies a little try on right there during our lunch date. I give a little sly smile to the waiter as he notices me changing my shoes as he makes his way over to take our order. I brush him off by giving him my sweetest little smile with a quick, “you know how it is with women and shoes” line. I tell my friend that they really are like cosmetics for your feet and point out that they look exceptionally fantastic considering that I just had my toes perfectly polished with my “go to” shade of Linkin Park After Dark.

When I got home after my lunch date, I went on to their website, www.Tkees.com, and it was singing to me with all of the different styles and color combinations. I ordered two more pairs. And then another, just because I saw this color on flip flop queen, Angelina Jolie, and so I just had to have them too. Here’s a little snippet about these lovelies right from the “About” page on their website and about the founders of this company. You are sure to fall in love….!

“For Jesse and Carly Burnett, the husband and wife duo behind TKEES (t-keys), it was a no-brainer—Carly yearned for a sandal that would “disappear” on your foot. “We’d walk out the door barefoot if we could, but it’s not appropriate for every occasion,” she says.

Thus, in the summer of 2009, using a simple thong sandal as their base, the couple (she with a degree from the School of Visual Arts and he with a background in business and real estate) produced a collection that was divided into color categories: Foundations, Creams, Liners, Glosses and more. Branded as “cosmetics for your feet,” TKEES was born, and has become the go-to sandal for easy, fresh and sophisticated everyday dressing.

Carly, the ultimate flip-flop girl, was never big on makeup, but loved its myriad color collections. She sifted through her mom’s cosmetic case and traveled the world with Jesse to build their business, finding continued inspiration in makeup stores and cosmetic counters. “The categories we created are natural and organic,” she says, “everything fits together.” The couple has stayed true to their mission, with customers applauding the sandals for their casual elegance and ease of wear—a no-brainer indeed.”

I was introduced to the Clarisonic by a makeup artist at a Nordstrom event this past February 2012. I was invited to a special event at the store for beauty writers where they brought in NYC based Chanel makeup artists to treat us to mini makeovers.

As I started to discuss my skin care regime with my makeup artist she was surprised to learn that I had never heard of the Clarisonic, nor ever used one before.

For the record, I’m one of those people who thinks that everything is a gimmick, designed to strip hard working people of their cash. I thought to myself, “here we go again….someone trying to sell me some ridiculously expensive gadget that I don’t need”.

I decided to listen to the girl and I was surprised by what she told me about it. This particular makeup artist had worked at a dermatology office for 5 years prior to going to work for Chanel. She was extremely knowledgeable about skin care and she was not a woman who believed in expensive creams and lotions. In fact, she used Cetaphil to cleanse her skin, which is something that I use to wash my face with too. After we talked for awhile, she told me that the Clarisonic was the one product she couldn’t live without!

She shared with me this information below about Clarisonic that came directly from their website, http://www.clarisonic.com.

“Beautiful Skin Begins with Cleaner Skin”

Traditional methods of cleansing don’t get your skin as clean as you’d think. Fortunately, the lead inventor of Sonicare discovered a breakthrough in how we cleanse. Using Sonic Technology, Clarisonic’s patented micro-massage motion works within skin’s natural elasticity to gently remove the impurities traditional methods leave behind- leaving skin softer, smoother and more beautiful.

Cleanses 6x better than with your hands alone in just 60 seconds

Works with skin, not against it, to gently massage away impurities trapped within pores

Prepares skin for better absorption of creams, serums and moisturizers

Gentle enough to use 2x a day”

I ended up purchasing the Mia 2 in pink for $149.00. I chose this model because it offered two different speeds with a one minute pulsing timer. Also, if I didn’t like the product, the company offers a 90-day money back guarantee.

Read the reviews on this product and you’ll be blown away! The overall rating is 4.7 out of 5 stars for this product and the reviews are stellar. After using the Mia 2 for the past several months, my skin has never been better and I get little to no breakouts anymore. I use it twice a day without exception because I love the way it makes my skin feel. I just leave it in my shower and use it when I’m in there. I have replaced the bristle head on on my Mia 2 as recommended at around the 3 month mark. It comes with a charger and I end up charging mine about every two weeks.

I highly recommend this product and am beyond happy that I took the plunge and purchased it! If your looking for a solution to better skin, look no further than Clarisonic. It’s worth every cent.

Now that we’ve all seen the color block theme done everywhere from the red carpet to the fashion runways of the hottest designers, I’m not surprised to see these bright, bold hues popping up in the form of nail polish.

Don’t be afraid to push the limits and have a little fun with these daring polish colors. Here’s how to wear these brights in style:

Let the polish be your fashion statement! Brighten up a white on white ensemble by popping one of the vibrant hues from designer Thakoon for Nars collection (available at Sephora).
It’s best to set these bold colors off with simple shades of white, khaki or black.

Keep nails short and trimmed. Long, bright nails are a fashion DON’T and can turn this fun trend into an instant fashion disaster.

(I have the Thakoon for Nars “Koliary” cyan blue on my toes and I’ve been using it as my fashion statement all week long. So much fun!)

The Best Summer Mascaras:

I’ve been asked by so many of my clients in these recent hot days, “What’s the best summertime mascara? Being the complete product whore that I am, I can’t help but to try out nearly every single mascara that’s on the market. Let me save you time and hard cold cash, by narrowing this frustrating ordeal down for you ladies.

Here are my TOP Summertime Mascara Picks:

BADgal by Benefit Waterproof Mascara ($19)
I can swim with this mascara on and it literally does NOT come off, even after multiple dips in the ocean! It doesn’t have the thickening effects of some of my other favorite nighttime mascaras, but this is one of my faves when I’m poolside or at the beach. Also, it’s great for my sensitive eyes that I always seem to be rubbing. This product is still a top seller at Sephora for all of these years because it works!

Yves Saint Laurent Everlong Waterproof Mascara ($28)

I absolutely love this mascara. Aside from the adorable gold packaging, it coats the lashes evenly and without clumping. I love the quality and texture of the product and it never gets greasy. It stays on nicely without smudging even in the heat, sun and sand. Added bonus: the large sized brush makes it easy for me to get all of my lashes. This one is well worth the money in my opinion!

Mascara DON’T:
Lucky magazine led me on a chase for what they described as a fantastic product, Hard Candy’s “Shiny When Wet” waterproof mascara/eyeliner duo, $7, available at Walmart. Within an hour of application and being in the Florida heat, my mascara turned greasy and dripped down my face. In the case of waterproof mascara, you get what you pay for.

Happy Weekend and may your mascara stay on your gorgeous eyelashes!
